Important Update: Party Game Kit Entering Maintenance Mode

Hi creators,
We’re announcing that Party Game Kit is now entering maintenance mode. This means the kit will no longer receive new features, but essential bug fixes and security updates will continue.
This update aims to enhance your ability to create a wider range of game genres more flexibly while streamlining our maintenance efforts. By consolidating our frameworks, we can focus on delivering more robust features in our newer kits. We recommend using the latest game kits, such as Horror Game Kit 1.5.0 and the upcoming Multiplayer Game Kit (expected later this year), for your future projects.

Impact on Party Projects

Existing Party projects will remain unaffected by this change. To manage these projects or create new ones, please follow the instructions on YAHAHA Desktop (Desktop) and download a dedicated Party Studio, which is available starting September 27, 2024. You may notice that Party Game Kit is now labeled “Legacy”.

Focus on New Kit and Feature Migration

Horror Game Kit 1.5.0, our first kit on the refactored SDK framework, has been live for four months. This new framework offers more comprehensive functionality and greater flexibility in packaging, allowing us to iterate efficiently based on user needs. Compared to the legacy game kits based on DOD, including Horror Game Kit 1.0.0 and Party Game Kit, the refactored framework provides a better foundation for future development. To learn more about the differences between these kits, refer to our previous post.

Over the past few months, we’ve gathered valuable user feedback for the new kit and have quickly migrated several functions from the old DOD framework, including:

  • Lua scripts and other elements.
  • The UI editor, which will return this October.
  • Multiplayer functionality, which will be reintroduced next month as part of the new Multiplayer Game Kit.
  • Node graph support, which will be available in the new SDK framework by early November.
As we continue to enhance features, we’ve realized that maintaining two engines simultaneously is doubling our costs and hindering future development. Therefore, it’s time to say goodbye to Party Game Kit built on the old DOD framework. While this kit will not receive new features, it will still be available for download on Desktop, and your existing projects won’t be affected. You can always find and play your games on Yahaha with your friends.

If you encounter any issues with the legacy Party Game Kit, please reply to this post, and we will be glad to assist you.

FAQs

  1. What will happen to Party Game Kit? Will it be sunset?
As we work on integrating features from Party Game Kit into other game kits, there is potential for a rebuild of Party Game Kit on the new SDK framework once all functionalities are feasible. It may return in a new form in the future.
We appreciate your engagement in our community as we transition these kits into a more robust framework for all creators!
  2. What types of game kits does Yahaha currently offer and what are the key differences between them?
Yahaha currently has both legacy game kits and Horror Game Kit 1.5.0.
  • Legacy Game Kits: Party Game Kit and Horror Game Kit 1.0.0 were built on the Data-Oriented Design (DOD) pattern with an entity component system (ECS). This design addressed network latency and data accuracy but limited the ability to accommodate a wider range of game genres and complex behaviors.
  • Horror Game Kit 1.5.0 and Future Kits: These are based on a refactored game SDK framework that enhances low-level APIs from Unity Engine, offering better compatibility with the Lua layer via packages, which enables improved version control and hot updates.
